Odds are a numerical expression, usually expressed as a pair of numbers, used in both gambling and statistics.
In statistics, the odds for or odds of some event reflect the likelihood that the event will take place, while odds against reflect the likelihood that it will not. In gambling, the odds are the ratio of payoff to stake, and do not necessarily reflect exactly the probabilities. Odds are expressed in several ways (see below), and sometimes the term is used incorrectly to mean simply the probability of an event.
In both gambling and statistics, the 'odds' are a numerical expression of the likelihood of some possible event.
In gambling, odds represent the ratio between the amounts staked by parties to a wager or bet. In simplest terms, 6 to 1 odds means if you bet a dollar (the "1" in the expression), and you win you get paid six dollars (the "6" in the expression), or 6 x 1. If you bet two dollars you would be paid twelve dollars, or 6 x 2.
If you bet three dollars and win, you would be paid eighteen dollars, or 6 x 3.
If you bet one hundred dollars and win you would be paid six hundred dollars, or 6 x 100. Of course if you lose any of those bets you would lose the dollar, or two dollars, or three dollars, or one hundred dollars. One drawback of expressing the uncertainty of this possible event as odds for is that to regain the probability requires a calculation. The natural way to interpret odds for (without calculating anything) is as the ratio of events to non-events in the long run.
A simple example is that the (statistical) odds for rolling six with a fair die (one of a pair of dice) are 1 to 5. This is because, if one rolls the die many times, and keeps a tally of the results, one expects 1 six event for every 5 times the die does not show six. For example, if we roll the fair die 600 times, we would very much expect something in the neighborhood of 100 sixes, and 500 of the other five possible outcomes. That is a ratio of 100 to 500, or simply 1 to 5.
To express the (statistical) odds against, the order of the pair is reversed. Hence the odds against rolling a six with a fair die are 5 to 1. The gambling and statistical uses of odds are closely interlinked. If a bet is a fair one, then the odds offered to the gamblers will perfectly reflect relative probabilities.
The profit and the expense exactly offset one another and so there is no advantage to gambling over the long run. If the odds being offered to the gamblers do not correspond to probability in this way then one of the parties to the bet has an advantage over the other. Casinos, for example, offer odds that place themselves at an advantage, which is how they guarantee themselves a profit and survive as businesses. It can even allow users to bet directly with Bet365, one of the world's biggest bookmakers, should the firm offer higher odds than those calculated.

By Ben Rumsby The spectre of match-fixing enveloped the Premier League after an expert on Asian betting markets claimed at least one game in the division had almost certainly been rigged. It is not possible to reveal the suspect matches in question or when they took place for legal reasons but details have been passed to both the Football Association and police. Wenger: English game is 99. Mark Brosnan, whose firm is one of the leading online betting exchanges, particularly in the Asian market in football, said both combined big swings in odds with a highly-suspicious performance from at least one of the players on the pitch.
He also said it was a misconception that match-fixers made money on spot-betting, such as yellow cards, insisting they targeted goals and outcomes. It is the most serious allegation that can be made about anyone involved in sport. It is about the most serious attack that can be made on sport. Anyone with allegations, information or evidence should report it to the police. There are processes in place through which they, the Gambling Commission and the Football Association are to act following receipt of such information.

Sometimes I download apps with every intention of using them, and then I never do. This is where I end up deleting them. If I ever need them again, I can just re-install. AppCleaner also lets you pick and choose what files you delete inside an app. That being said, AppCleaner does an excellent job of helping you clean up unused apps that are hogging unnecessary storage. And whenever you add another piece to your workflow, it seems the duplicates always love to come back in droves.
If you suspect you have duplicate photos floating around in your library, there are tons of apps available to help you clean them up. One of my favorites is PhotoSweeper. Not only can it scan your library for exact matches, you have tons of options for customizing your photo triaging.
For example, I can search for only photos of the exact same file type (great for photographers who only want to search for RAW files), or only files of the exact same size. Instead, you can stream them using iTunes in the Cloud. As you can see in the screenshot above, I have a cloud icon next to all of my movies. To delete movies off your actual Mac hard drive, just right click the movie and remove it.
It will still stay available for streaming via iTunes in the Cloud. This alone can free up tons of hard drive space. For example, I have lots of old photos and videos from college and high school. When I want to access them, I can simply log in to Dropbox from anywhere, or use the app on my iPhone or iPad.
On the Mac, you can dictate what folders sync from Dropbox and are stored locally on your Mac. By default, anything you put in Dropbox will be stored locally. You can access selective sync settings by choosing Preferences and then hitting the Accounts button. As you can see in the photo above, I have my photo backup disabled from Dropbox on my Mac.
My only advice would be to make sure you have a complete backup of your photo library before enabling iCloud Photo Library.
I ended up with a lot of duplicates and some folks have reported albums going missing. That being said, there are millions of happy iCloud Photo Library users out there. Just be sure to prepare, in the event that something does go awry.
To enable it, just launch the Photos app on your Mac, choose Photos in the top navigation and then Preferences. Under the iCloud section, simply check the box for iCloud Photo Library.
Then just make sure the sub-option for Optimize Mac Storage is also selected. Hat tip to Eric in the comments who pointed out that remembering to empty your trash periodically is important. This post was syndicated via The App Factor. There are no disks in SSDs. You may only re-download an app from the Mac App Store so long as that app is still sold in the Mac App Store.
This is one of the things that irritates me most. If I purchase it, it should be available in the cloud forever.
Kind of hard to save storage space if you have to worry about a movie being removed from the Store. None of my computers or iOS devices have used hard drives for years.
MaH This is one of the things that irritates me most.My sister secretly reached out to her to choose a restaurant to treat us to dinner for the last night of our trip, and Maria's suggestion was perfect. I especially loved the folder we received upon arrival that included vouchers for each day. This was helpful to enter in the destination to the car's GPS to help us get around.
Not only did it suggest what to do each day, but it gave you a little history of each item. Since we were on our own most of the trip, these little blurbs of info gave me a nice bit of history, the perfect amount. The section at the end that provided helpful tips on traveling, money, tipping, weather, packing, etc. I could not have asked for a better experience at any stage of planning or the trip itself. How to Search Hashtags on Instagram to Find Local Customers
Sofia was very, very helpful. This is our second tour with Nordic Visitor. Last year we went to Greenland was impressed with Nordic Visitor and booked another vacation. The location of hotels and quality of hotels was excellent.
All hotels were close to train stations and also close to tourist activities. As this was our first time to Sweden, Denmark and Norway I did have questions and Sofia was very quick to answer them. This is our type of vacation as we prefer self guided over group tours. I would recommend your company and in fact have already done so.
Again, a big thank you to Sofia. We had no issues during our stay. The hotels were well located in relation to the train stations, and were of a high standard. The voucher system worked well and presented no difficulties. Pity about the rain in Bergen, but the locals told us, that it always rains in Bergen. Already recommended the trip to friends.
Thanks for all your assistance prior to the visit. I cannot say enough good things about our tour with Nordic Visitor. Every interaction, from first contact to the tour itself, was a pleasure. Sigfus was wonderful, addressing all our questions and issues in an efficient manner. The tour itself was amazing. We loved the quiet and natural beauty of the West Fjords and we enjoyed the flexibility of the self-drive tour to tailor our activities to suit our interests (and the weather).
We would most certainly consider another self-drive tour with Nordic Visitor. This was our first trip with Nordic Visitor and we expect that it won't be our last. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. The food was delicious at each of the guest houses. And most importantly the people of Iceland were kind and hospitable. We felt very welcome and safe.
We were very impressed with the service. Lots of information, and very well organised.
